Robertson Resigns From Christian Coalition-Pat Robertson, president and founder of The Christian Coalition, resigned as its President and the Board of Directors. He cited his reason as being a "renewed call to the Christian ministry." Robertson says his energies will be refocused on his responsibilities as Chairman and CEO of The Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), founded in 1960. CBN's broadcast of its flagship program, The 700 Club (hosted by Robertson), remains one of the longest running religious television shows. Robertson will also devote a considerable amount of time to Regent University, the graduate school that he founded in 1978, and for which he currently serves as Chancellor and Interim President. (Crosswalk, 12/6/01) Robertson seems to have trouble knowing exactly when and what God wants him to do. Remember he claimed the Lord told him run for president of the U.S. in 1988. -(W. W. Mosley, hereafter WWM)
Christian Title Abuse-`Christian' is used three times in the Bible. Each time it identifies those called Christians as being Christlike or followers of Christ. Christian is (mis-)used today more than it is used properly, I fear. The media is certainly not competent in using the word. "Christian Singer Awaits Sentencing" for molestation charges, was a headline in a Tulsa (OK) AP. Who was this Christian(?)? Ja'Marc Antoine Davis is "an award_winning Christian_music performer who admitted having a sexual relationship with an underage girl." He was physically involved with a girl "who was 14 at the time of their relationship from 1998 to 1999." The girl was a dancer for Davis' Tulsa-based "Christian music group, Raze, which won a Dove Award in the Dance-Rap-Hip-Hop category." Former pastor, Glenn Smith, of Tulsa's Believers Church said Davis was getting counseling because "He had to learn what allowed him to cross boundaries that he knew were wrong." He likely had not been to church enough to hear it was wrong from the pulpit. Or MORE likely his pastor never preached "negatively." Sin never called by it's first name will never be introduced as being sinful. -WWM
Massachusetts Lesbian/Gay Bar Asso. `Outraged'-A Mass. State Bar Association group of lawyers has set out to honor Rep. John H. Rogers as "Legislator of the Year." (Boston Globe, 12/10/01) Why would this raise the indignation of the lesbian/gay group? Rogers is the chief sponsor of a bill to outlaw gay marriage and is an opponent of other gay_rights measures. It costs to be on the side of the `right'. Threats of retaliation from the L/G Bar Asso. abound. "If they go ahead with this award, unless there's some sort of compensation to the homosexual community for this psychic injury, we're going to have the biggest demonstration that the city of Boston has ever seen outside that dinner that night." I read of such a demonstration outside of Lot's house one night by the same kind of sinners. They didn't fare too well. The Judge of the whole earth will issue the final judgment. -WWM
New Bible Version On Its Way-This is no real surprise since the last few decades has produced about 70 new versions. The latest addition is the English Standard Version from Crossway. The new Bible announcement had this quote attached: "we'll never again have a common Bible." (Lubbock A-J, 12/8/01) Raymond Van Leeuwen, NT professor at Pennsylvania's Eastern College, has the opinion that we need this new version. Of course he doesn't really know for sure "until he studies" the ESV. What a mistake such professors must feel God made when he used "unlearned and ignorant men" to pen His inspired word. (Acts 4:13) The outstanding difference. . .these men "had been with Jesus." Prof. Van Leeuwin likely feels the same about God called-preachers. (See 1 Cor. 1:26-29) -WWM
Youth Experiencing Power Jam-If you doubt that bold entertainment is replacing biblical evangelism, and comedy is replacing true Christianity, simply read this religious announcements. This Lubbock A-J (12/8/01) announcement is only typical of those across the U.S.A. "Youth from throughout the state are expected to come together today to share a positive message of hope and comfort communicated through song, dance, rap, mime, instrumentals, drama and Christian comedy." This was "the second annual Youth Experiencing Power Jam" to be held at "Hope Center Church." The title of some performers is as undesirable as the announcement: "Perfected Praise Dance Ministry; comedian Bryan Keith; Sounds of Blackness." Such performance in a church setting does not make it acceptable to God. All this has a worldly atmosphere. (1 John 2:15) "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him." I'm sure of one thing about the power experienced by those who attended. It was not the power of God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. -WWM
Match Makers for Singles Is Only a `.com' Away-Forget about the biblical guidelines for marriage. "Christian singles looking for love, romance . . ." is only a click of the mouse away for many seeking saints. "Single Christians, meet your soulmate [compatible in sensitivity] in our cozy Café!" is the latest in internet surfing. (Crosswalk, 12/25/01) This is for "singles men and women looking for free dating services . . . singles love." Nothing is said about a virus protection if the desired contact is made. Singles classes are an adult parallel of children's church. Neither teach much Bible and diversion from the study of God's word is likely major. Be careful!! -WWM
Repair Planned For Clinton Legacy-Former Pres. Bill Clinton tried adultery, denied adamantly, lied abundantly, and now he wants his image repaired. Mr. Clinton is "frustrated that his image has been battered since he left office." He recently "summoned several of his aides (taxpayer financed) and advisers to devise ways to remind the public of his accomplishments and defend his legacy against criticism" including his role in many areas. A list of Clinton's "accomplishments" are being compiled and will be supplied to his defenders. (NY Times, 12/21/01) You can rest assured Monica will not be mentioned. Likely he has thought of other methods to answer his many moral deficiencies. Mr. Clinton should be much more concerned with repentance of sin than revamping his image. Hillary and Al were not summoned . . . or refused to attend. -WWM
Gender By Choice-Several leading newspapers reported that the ethics committee of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine had ruled that parents could ethically choose between embryos on the basis of gender, and that fertility clinics were now authorized to offer the service. The clinics would identify the sex of embryos, and the would-be parents could choose a boy or a girl, and discard the rest. (Baptist Press, 12/26/01) Not only has the feminist aggregation tried to discard masculinity from the Bible, now male embryos can be trashed. Since Sept. 11, "God bless America" has been freely used. How can God bless a nation that leaves Him out of every decision? Aren't you glad that Abraham and Sarah listened only to God? (Gen. 18:10,12) -WWM
This Is News?-News reports cited by the Scripps Howard News Service say that teens who watch movies with smoking scenes are much more likely to try smoking themselves. A project of Dartmouth Medical School surveyed about 5,000 middle school students in Vermont and New Hampshire. An editorial column, which accompanied the new study, argues that it would be much more effective for Hollywood to stop tobacco promotion than to try and figure out ways in which to insulate teens from pro-smoking messages. (NewsMax, 12/27/01) Why did this news service not include alcohol, murder, and immorality? Although warning that tobacco is a high-rated killer that young people pickup by observation, so also is soul-damning Hollywood's unrestricted movies promoting immorality & drinking. -WWM
Muslim Holy War Draftees-A brick Victorian house in London has been turned into a mosque. Young converts praying there have their religious interest aroused by those considered "Islamic extremists." The "extremists" promise "lunch and enroll them in classes about the Koran." When the young men's attention is gained, they are preached "a fiery rhetoric about a holy war." (Boston Globe,12/31/01) Koran doctrine, if followed, is certainly extreme, even fatal for true believers in Christ Jesus. Franklin Graham is exactly right about Koran teaching. He said about the Islam religion, "I don't believe this is a wonderful, peaceful religion. When you read the Koran and you read the verses from the Koran, it instructs the killing of the infidel, for those that are non-Muslim." Why would the administrators at the moderate Brixton Mosque say ". . . Islamic extremists were preying on impressionable young men at their mosque, where most worshipers are converts," if they are teaching out of the same book? Do not all Muslims study from the same Koran? -WWM
Unbelievable Political Investigating-"Sen. Hillary Clinton wants a full-scale investigation into why the Twin Towers fell . . ." (Federalist, 01/01) NY has this liberal for representation in the U.S. Senate. Wasting tax dollars has a brand new meaning. Why does she not simply say "it is a right- wing conspiracy?" This worked when Hillary was angry at Christians who wanted her husband removed from office. -WWM
Churches Are Leaving UCC-Many churches are leaving the United Church of Christ and other liberal denominations. From 1996-1999, 131 churches left the UCC and a third since the 1960s (3/12 CC). Reasons? The UCC officially supports abortion, allows practicing homosexuals to serve as pastors, attacks the authority and inerrancy of the Bible and promotes theological liberalism. -(Calvary Contender, hereafter CC)
Don't Call Them `Mormons'-Mormons let it be known last month they no longer wanted to be referred to as "the Mormon Church," "the Latter-day Saints Church," or by "LDS Church." If the name must be shortened, "the Church of Jesus Christ," or "the Church" is acceptable, they said (3/19 USN&WR). But "Mormons," or "Smithites," would be more accurate titles than either of the latter two. Some see the name change as but one of a series of recent steps by the Mormonism cult to deceptively pass itself off as a Christian church. -CC
Can't Protest Blasphemy Of Jesus-Temple Univ. (Phila.) officials committed honor student Michael Marcavage to a psychiatric ward for protesting a play depicting Christ as a homosexual. He had posted flyers complaining about plans to produce "Corpus Christi," a vile play that debuted on Broadway in 1998 (WITW). Jesus can be blasphemed and depicted as a nude female, but such is not tolerated against other religion leaders. -CC
