On Partial-Birth Abortion - During the arguments on banning partial-birth abortion in the House of Rep. in April 2000, Rep. Spencer Bachus [AL] said: "Do not all of us have the compassion to agree that this should never happen to any human being? A violation of our God given dignity. Is not every partial birth abortion an offense against humanity: does it not weaken our conscience, harden our heart, and dull our mind. I submit to you that every innocent life taken by this procedure makes America less caring, less respectful of others, and leaves behind only feelings of guilt. Each procedure leaves scars that can last forever in our memory, in our hearts, and in our consciences." Well said Mr. Bachus. The bill to ban partial birth abortion was passed and sent to the President Clinton for signing. It was vetoed by Pres. Clinton. Pres. Clinton could have stopped this heartless act which continues in Christian(?) America. -(W. W. Mosley, hereafter WWM)

British Government & Teenage Pregnancies - The British have the highest number of teenage pregnancies in Western Europe. To check this growing problem the British Government has made it possible for anyone over 16 to obtain after the fact contraceptives(?) without prescription. (Baptist Press, 12/11/00) The AMA announced last week it would support over-the-counter access to the "morning-after pill" in the US if its safety is proven by federal research. It is getting easier to get by with sin, with governmental help. But wait! There is another governing body that has the last say. "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment." (Matt. 12:36) "So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." (Rom. 14:12) - WWM

Nurse Fired For Refusing To Dispense `Morning-After' Pill-A Riverside, CA, nurse was fired by the county-operated Riverside Neighborhood Health Center for refusing to dispense the emergency contraceptive pill. (Freedom Forum Online, 12/08/00) She felt giving the pill "to a patient would have been like contributing to an abortion." To do this would have violated her religious beliefs. The non-religious beliefs of those opposing true Christianity stopped prayer in school, the posting of the Ten Commandments in government buildings, and nativity scenes in public places. To hold on to a faith centered in Christ is sure to be at greater cost as we wait for the coming of our Lord. According to a Dec. 1 Associated Press article, the AMA is debating whether the morning-after pill should be made available over the counter. Although Wal-Mart decided last year not to sell the pill, the AMA's Council on Medical Service is recommending that it be made easier to obtain, the AP reported.-WWM

Guzzlers Beware - Think twice before tying one on. The effects are worse than the morning-after throbbing head, queasiness, fatigue and dry mouth. Alcohol hangovers have cardiac, neurological and psychiatric consequences, according to a review of 33 years of medical studies of alcohol intoxication published in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine. (LAJ, 12/12/00) This is not the only reason to shun alcohol. Hear the Ancient of days: "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise." (Prov. 20:1) "Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Cor. 6:10)

Dobson & Colson Visit Vatican-"Evangelical leaders James Dobson and Chuck Colson took part in a conference at the Vatican last month. They joined business executives, Catholic politicians, lawyers, and scholars Nov. 27-29 discussing family issues. Dobson, president of Focus on the Family, and Colson, president of Prison Fellowship, also had a brief meeting with the pope, according to The Gazette of Colorado Springs..." Graham, Falwell, Van Impe Praise Pope-We have seen so many influential fundamentalists end up endorsing Catholicism! If only they would have obeyed the warnings of the Bible and followed the example of Jesus! Men like Billy Graham, Jerry Falwell, Jack Van Impe and others, have heaped praise upon the Pope when they should be sounding the alarm against him! (Kingdom Alert, 12/23/00) [WWM: Standing against any false religion brings reproach on all who stand for biblical truth. The Muslim religion is being lauded by some, who call themselves Christians, as being acceptable. A short quote from a Christian(?) in an email defending the Muslim religion: "...we must learn to live in harmony with them or else eventually fight them and kill them and theirs while they kill us and ours. In His Name, James Green." "Can two walk together, except they be agreed?" (Amos 3:3)].

Religious Liberty Group Challenges Half-Time Music-Americans United for Separation of Church and State threatened legal action against Fort Gibson (OK) band director, Gordon Macklin. His offense? Directing the High School band as they played hymns during half-time performances. (Daily Oklahoman, 12/19/00) The group's attorney said the performance violates the Constitution "because it sends a message to both the members of the band and those who attend the football game that the Christian religion is both endorsed and preferred." It seems that a need for Christian values would be in demand, especially since there was a shooting Dec. 4th on the school premises that wounded four Middle School children, according to their Web Page. God has been expelled from America's schools and the only resources Christian teachers have are designed by those who oppose God. "Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?" (Jer. 2:17)-WWM

NAMBLA Teacher vs. Teacher Who Believes In God-(CNS) "Where are we going as a nation when a teacher who answers questions about God is fired within days, while a pedophile is merely transferred?" said House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-TX). He asked this question to a crowd of supporters and news people on the Capitol lawn this morning. He was referring to Mildred Rosario, who fired from the NYC school system for allegedly praying with her students, and to another teacher discovered to be a member of the North American Man-Boy Love Association, who is still employed by the school system. (CNS, 6/25/98) "...evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived," (1 Tim. 3:13) is being fulfilled while America is lulled into an immoral sleep by Hollywood. I pray that many more political leaders will take a public stand with Mr. DeLay on this matter. "In God We Trust" is more than a slogan...it is our national security. "Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance." (Psa. 33:12)-WWM

ACLU Protecting Children's Rights?-The American Civil Liberties Union said on Friday that it is suing an Anaheim, CA school district for removing 10 biographies of prominent gays and lesbians from the shelves of a junior high school library...The suit, filed on Thursday in a U.S. District Court in Santa Ana, CA, is intended to protect children's First Amendment rights under the U.S. Constitution from "viewpoint-based censorship" imposed by adults who disagree with homosexuality, ACLU attorney Martha Matthews said....The California lawsuit follows two other federal suits filed in Wisconsin and Texas to block the banning of gay-theme books from children's library shelves. (Reuters,12/22/00) Among those who were profiled in the books were Marlene Dietrich, Liberace, and Martina Navratilova.-WWM

Pope John Paul II On Western Lifestyle-"Pope John Paul II on Thursday urged other cultures to reject a Western lifestyle that he accused of worsening `spiritual and moral impoverishment,'" according to an Associated Press release, 12/14/00. The Pope lays much of the blame on the media, that such things as "abortion, euthanasia, ...trafficking in women and children" are common in western culture. When the Pope condemns the media in this manner, more western ears will perk up than when a faithful Baptist pastor calls this to their attention. There is just enough truth in the Pope's warning to make the religious error he heads more dangerous.-WWM

Canadians Find Loopholes For Gay Marriages-The Metropolitan Community Church in Tonto, a predominantly (85 percent) homosexual congregation in a predominantly homosexual denomination, says it has found a way to perform legal homosexual marriages. The Ontario Marriage Act allows couples to marry one of two ways: the traditional obtaining of a marriage license from City Hall, marriage by a justice of the peace or pastor, or though marriage banns: publishing the names of the couple on three consecutive Sundays preceding a marriage. One thing the Ontario Marriage Act doesn't do is say "man" or "woman"just "person." The church says that's a big enough loophole. (Chr. Today,12/7/00) It will be much more difficult, even impossible to find such a loophole in God's law. Would Rick Warren's Saddleback Community Church (SBC) accept a letter from this Metropolitan Community Church in Tonto? They have the same identification. There is something indeed "In A Name." -WWM

U.S. Methodist Follow In Canada Methodist Steps-South of the Canadian border, United Methodists in Chicago and North Carolina are also looking for loopholes to allow gay unions. Gregory Dell, who was suspended in April 1999 for performing a same-sex holy union ceremony, is back on the job and presiding over more unions. He says church law allows for same-sex unions if they happen outside the church. So now both gay and heterosexual couples at the church go outside for the ceremony, then back inside for a celebration. (Chr. Today, 12/7/00) Isn't it time for God's people to come out of this organization? -WWM

Moscow Kicks Out Salvation Army -The Salvation Army is homeless in Moscow. The ministry has been evicted from its church building and told to vacate its offices in another building, according to CNS, an Internet news service. Landlords took action immediately after the Dec. 31 deadline requiring religious groups to register with the government. Moscow officials had refused to register the Army, considering it a militaristic organization. (Religion Today, 01/04/01) Godless regimes will use any excuse to oust any sort of religion that proclaim their belief in God. The common definition of church includes the Sal. Army. Gospel preaching missionaries of Baptist churches are sure to have the same trouble. We are rapidly seeing the same thing happen in America.-WWM

America's Taste For The Distasteful-The Beverly Hilton was the site for the Jan. 3 Grammy Award. Even the most liberal critics of worldly music were bewildered when rapper Eminem was nominated for a best album. Under the article title "Grammy Nod is a Blow to Critics," announcement was made that a body pierced, vulgar mouthed, satanic looking, savage acting, imitator of Satan became the first hard-core rapper nominated for a best album Grammy. The only reason this is mentioned here is to alert those concerned about our nation, to become more intensely involved in prayer. Also in screening what our children and grandchildren hear and see, in spite of the ACLU. This demonized creature has 10 to 14 year-olds scampering for his album. God save America from herself.-WWM

The Harlot's Daughters Coming Closer Together-Members of the Episcopal Church in the U.S.A. & Evangelical Lutheran Church in America are celebrating a unity agreement that took four decades of dialogue to reach. (Religion Today, 1/4/01) The agreement recognizes that the churches have much in common theologically, since both emerged from the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. But their traditions are different: Lutheran traditions are rooted in Germany, Episcopal traditions in England. Both churches are liberal, pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, members of the National and World Councils of Churches. (Calvary Contender, 8/1/00).-WWM

Catholic Theology Over A Beer In A Bar- Chicago priest John Cusick started the "Theology on Tap" program in 1981. He has since copyrighted it for the Archdiocese of Chicago. The priest said, "It's about time the Catholic Church got more into being mission-driven and going to where the people are and not waiting for them to come to us, because obviously that's not working." (RSN,1/4/01) "Even Jesus ate and drank with sinners," was used to settle once and for all the properness of Cusick's ministry(?). "You couldn't possibly get this many people in a church," said Beth Garcia, a 32-year-old interpreter who described church as a "lonely heart's club." "One thing Catholics could stand to master is the social stuff. We've got the theology down, we've got the charity down, but not the social stuff." The sad thing about this is the same principle is being used by more moderate(?) churches with milder refreshments. Why seek an alternative to Romans 1:16?-WWM

Planned Parenthood invested a whopping $7 million into recent Democratic campaigns. (Baptist Press, 12/29/00) This speaks volumes about Planned Parenthood. PP urges parents of teen-age children to talk plainly about birth control practices. They make available to any who care to participate the best place to obtain an abortion. "The number of unborn children killed in PP's 850 clinics rose from 139,000 in 1995 to nearly 168,000 in 1999." (World, 4/22/00, via CC, 5/15/00) Guess who PP wanted in the law-making offices of our nation?-WWM

Baptist Feminist Theologian Speaks At Methodist Church-Feminist theologian Phyliss Trible spoke at St. John's Methodist Church, Lubbock, TX. Trible is professor of biblical studies at Wake Forest University Divinity School (SBC) and Baldwin Professor of Sacred literature, emerita, at Union Theological Seminary in New York. (Lubbock A-J, 1/13/01) What a mixed multitude! (Num. 11:4)-WWM

D.A.R.E. Is A Dud -The nation's most popular drug education program is an enormous failure. Police serve as role models and confidants, and provide training to keep kids off drugs (11/20 Chr. News). Though widely used in schools, DARE has failed to significantly reduce drug, alcohol, or cigarette use and was recently called a fraud by a large-city mayor. Recently (1/25 HT), a local former DARE officer was accused of molesting seven youngsters he was supposed to be counseling about not using drugs.-(Calvary Contender, hereafter CC)

Brazil's Catholicism, Spiritism - Of Brazil's 170 million, 130 million are Roman Catholics. Or, are they? Many will go to their Catholic Mass on Saturday and their Spiritist meeting on Tuesday. Many have been charismatics and when offered the gospel they will say yes, and will just add that to the other things they already have (12/4 Chr. Today). Brazil is considered the largest Roman Catholic country in the world, but a Presbyterian pastor says, "Brazil is a Spiritist country, not a Catholic country." There are over 14,000 Spiritist centers in Brazil. Spiritist worship takes two forms: Lower Spiritism that came with African slaves (voodoo, witchcraft, magic, etc.). The other is popular with upper-class folks, and has a New Age kind of emphasis (reincarnation, talking with dead). Catholicism seems compatible with various other false-gospel, syncretistic religions (e.g., Santeria, voodoo). -CC

Gloria Copeland Says We Deserve Wealth - Gloria (Mrs. Kenneth) Copeland is known for her heretical Word-Faith theology. We quote from a review of her new book (12/00 Charisma): "Tethered to the belief that God's people deserve wealth, real estate and financial abundance, the author asserts that if those are not manifest in our lives, we are not doing the Word but reaping poor choices previously sown. Touching briefly on the law of progressive increase, Copeland confirms that little by little our obedience to God will prosper us financially, spiritually and emotionally. It is this prosperity that moves us from simply obtaining personal wealth to using that wealth to advance God's ultimate plan." This is false teaching. We are sinners, undeserving of even the least of His mercies. -CC

Tobacco Vs. Alcohol Hypocrisy-Alcohol is a major causative factor in traffic accidents, homelessness, crimes, divorces, suicides, etc. Yet our government goes after the tobacco industry bigtime, but seemingly gives the liquor industry a free pass. This is selective outrage, pure hypocrisy! We do not defend the tobacco industry, though we feel safer on the highway meeting a smoking driver than a drinking driver. And if the government is going to penalize the tobacco industry for $145 billion (e.g.), and award this to longtime smokers whose health was damaged, it should rather reward more deserving NON-smokers who have for years been damaged through no fault of their own by second-hand smoke! -CC

Evolution Not Now Nor Ever - Belief in evolution is a remarkable phenomenon passionately defended by the scientific establishment, despite the lack of any observable scientific evidence for macroevolution (from one distinct kind of organism into another). The lack of a case for evolution is clear from the fact that no one has ever seen it happen, not now nor in the past. If it were a real process, evolution should still be occurring, and there should be many "transitional" forms that we could observe. Evolution is not science at all, but an arbitrary system built upon faith in universal naturalism. [Excerpt, Henry Morris, 12/00 Acts & Facts] -CC

Homosexuality has become the cause du jour of those who seek to undermine the family. Though homosexuals comprise only 2-3 percent of the population, they exert incredible influence over the political arena. Abetted by a pro-homosexual news and entertainment media, the radical gay activists' assault on morality has reached a fever pitch. Last spring, homosexuals achieved a form of "gay marriage"[civil unions] in Vermont, and now push for recognition of same-sex unions in the other 49 states. Congress is considering homosexual "hate crimes" legislation that would set up special classes of victims based on special behavior. Under such a law, some crimes committed against heterosexuals would be punished less severely than the same crimes against homosexuals. [Excerpt, Focus on the Family booklet] -CC

Muslims Endanger Christians, Philippines - The Philippines is Asia's only nation with a "Christian" majority. About 80% of its 70 million people are Roman Catholic; 7 to 10 % are Protestant. Muslims are 8% and most live in Mindanao and Sulo Archipelago in the south (12/4 C.T.). Muslim groups have carried on a bitter and brutal insurgency since the early 1970s but this mostly ceased in 1996. But some rebel groups demand removal of all Christian missionaries in southern Philippines. -CC

Methodists Bail Out NCC - An emergency grant of $400,000 from the United Methodist Church allows the ecumenical National Council of Churches to keep its doors open. Before the Nov. 18 vote by a UMC agency, Phil Young, the NCC's treasurer, had told reporters that if the Methodists didn't advance the cash the NCC's next job would be planning a shutdown, according to Presbyterian News Service (11/23 Religion Today). That won't be necessary now. "My guess is that there will still be anxiety and frustration in the coming six months," Young told the PNS. "But by Jan. 30, 2001, most of the anxiety and uncertainty will be behind us." He said the council has begun operating within its budget, having just laid off 12 of its 64 employees. "It is the mess of the prior management that we're trying to clean up." NCC head Robert Edgar said the council is stabilizing. At this time last year, it faced a debt of $5.9 million and had no systems in place to control spending, he said. The liberal UMC is a major supporter of the apostate NCC and its left-wing causes. God's people should "come out" of it. -CC

Pope Fails At Exorcism Try - Pope John Paul II spent 30 minutes in conversation and prayer with a teenage girl who was "screaming insults in a cavernous voice" during a general audience at the Vatican (11/13 CT). The pope's intervention seemed to have only a temporary effect on the teen, but Catholic theologians stressed that exorcism is almost never easy or rapid. The Vatican plans to distribute a new exorcism ritual manual telling priests to spend more time praying with those possessed by evil spirits and tones down stronger language. -CC
