Muslims Begin Month Long Fast - The Lubbock Islamic community joins Muslims around the world in the month-long fast of Ramadan. (Lubbock A-J, 11/25/00) This bit of news was top on the LAJ's religious news. This is likely a follow-up of the religion tolerance article that appeared 11/5/00. Be assured that the tolerance of other religions will be going only one way when it comes to Muslims and Hindus. The blood of Christians crying from the ground, who have fallen before these two religions, would be more convincing than my word. -(W. W. Mosley, hereafter WWM)
U.S. Postal Service Debuts Muslim Stamp - Monday, 11/3/00, was the day the USPS was to debut their Muslim stamp. C-SPAN's Washington Journal program was to feature the stamp along with others to be release in 2001, according the Council on American-Islamic Relations. Hillary Clinton said the Muslim religion was a "great religion." President Clinton visited Muslim Pakistan earlier this year. Religion Today, 3/22/00, reported fanatical Muslims beat a Catholic nun to death March 12. According to the Fundamental Baptist Information Service, Pope John Paul II kissed the Koran, the Muslims holy book. Acceptance of the Islamic religion is growing rapidly in America. The land of the free could have their freedom to worship seriously curtailed if this trend continues. -WWM
Netherlands To OK Euthanasia Bill - An AP International article reported Dutch lawmakers debated the requirements for legally requesting death in their country. It was the final step before approving a euthanasia bill. Euthanasia is supposedly a death administered by request of the subject. The dominant argument for such is that it is merciful, painless, and a relief from either mental or physical discomfort. Like abortion, who can hear the muffled cry when either of these practices are administered? America has already accepted the practice of one. The practice of the other is not far behind. Be reminded that God, the Author of life, said there is "A time to be born, and a time to die." (Eccl. 3:2)-WWM
Spay Day USA - Entertainment Wire service out of Washington, 11/23/00, announced Spay Day USA. The Doris Day Animal Foundation (DDAF) is concerned about the pet population as well as the pets in America. Contributions are sought for this foundation to continue on their main mission. Their mission? "...to put an end to the use of euthanasia as a means of pet population control,..." said Joyce Briggs, executive director of PETsMART Charities. Euthanasia is being trumpeted as the merciful thing to do for impaired humans but undesirable for the animal kingdom. Spay `em or slay `em may soon be announced as the answer to overpopulation. Or maybe legalizing same-sex marriages. However, this will not work in the animal kingdom. Only God defying humanity will stoop to same-sex activity. (Rom. 1:26,27) - WWM
One Man/One Woman Marriage Declining - "What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (Matt. 19:6) These words of Jesus are considered irrelevant today in American society. The U.S. Census Bureau reported that the out-of-wedlock birth rate soared 224% between 1970 and 1998. During that same period, the number of single-parent families grew by 190%, and the number of children living with unmarried couples went up by 665%. (LA Times, 9/18/00) This is closely related to the decrease in divorce. The National Center for Health Statistics reports there were 4.2 divorces per thousand Americans in 1998, the latest year for which figures are available. By comparison, the rate was 4.7 per thousand in 1990 and 5.2 per thousand in 1980. (LA Times, 9/18/00) No nation can hope to survive long with such shameless disregard for biblical guidance. This can only add to the trouble America is in already. "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people." (Prov. 14:34) The same nation that bans the Ten Commandments from its government property, supplements sin in many ways. -WWM
Soulforce Flexing Its Muscles - Soulforce, a gay/lesbian organization, claims to be peaceful in their activities. They are calling for an end to "spiritual violence" against gay/lesbians. Part of their complaint involves some churches refusing to bless same-sex unions. (LA Times, 11/8/00) They have actively protested Catholics, Methodist, and others in Florida and California. They are also constructing their "Soulforce Habitat" in Lynchburg, VA, "...demonstrating to Jerry Falwell that his anti-gay rhetoric about the `gay lifestyle' is not based on reality." Jerry Falwell demonstrated tolerance when he entertained homosexual Mel White on Liberty's campus. President Clinton and VP Gore and their spouses all approve of such a life- style. They may need such a shelter as the Soulforce Habitat when they vacate their present homes. -WWM
Interesting Stastics - Gov. Bush won the election in 2,434 counties. VP Gore won in 677 counties. The average murder per 100,000 residents in counties won by Bush is 0.1. The average murder per 100,000 residents in those won Gore is 13.2. (The Federalist, 12/5/00) The staff of researchers of this publication found that gun ownership in the counties won by Gov. Bush is much higher that in the counties won by VP Gore. It seems more guns in the hands of law abiding citizens work better than more gun laws, in keeping down crime. -WWM
Hitler's Eugenics Alive In The Netherlands - The Dutch parliament's decision to legalize euthanasia brings the Netherlands one step closer to the practice of eugenics. (Baptist Press, 11/29/00) This is getting close to Hitler's pre-WW II promotion of hereditary improvement of the human race by eliminating the undesirable. This is the first country in the world to have legalized euthanasia. How close is our country to legalizing this practice? -WWM
Euthanasia Lobby Targets Maine - The voters of Maine rejected Question 1, on their ballot. This would have authorized doctors to participate in patient killing. The national euthanasia lobby targeted Maine as a state susceptible to the culture of death, even though the Maine legislature had already rejected assisted suicide three times. (Family Research Council Press Release, 11/8/00) -WWM
Muslims In Politics -About 700 Muslim Americans ran for various local, state, and federal offices in this year's elections, according to a Fremont, CA, 11/12/00, report. At least 152, most of whom are members of the American Muslim Alliance, were elected to local and state offices. Ninety-two of these were elected from Texas. Christian(?) America is changing in religion and reliance on the true God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Paganism is become more acceptable as ecumenism is made more popular in Christian circles. -WWM
Overseas Anglicans Less Liberal -Anglican archbishops from overseas are less liberal than the Episcopal Church, the U.S. branch of Anglicanism. The Episcopal Church (U.S.) practices the ordaining of gay men and lesbians and allowing clergy to bless same-sex unions. (LAJ, 11/25/00) Bishops from foreign countries are called in to help in the "confirmation service" at the Church of the Good Shepherd because of the liberal stand of the U.S. Episcopalian Church. -WWM
Baptist Church Accepts Alien Immersion -Boulevard (SBC) Baptist Church, Anderson, S.C., made a June decision by the congregation to accept candidates for church membership who have not been immersed from churches of other faiths, brought about their dismissal from membership in Saluda Baptist Asso. (Baptist Press, 11/28/00) Boulevard's new policy recognizes "the diversity of baptismal practices among Christian churches." The association's director of missions said he regretted the need to carry out this action but "...their decision to move in a new direction of recognizing members without believer's baptism leaves us with no choice as Baptists but to sever ties with Boulevard." It might be surprising how many other Baptist churches are doing the same as Boulevard Baptist, yet have not made it known. -WWM
More On The `Ten Commandments' Battle - "-Threatened by fines, residents of a small Indiana town say they were forced to remove a monument displaying the Ten Commandments from the lawn of the local courthouse after a federal judge ruled on behalf of the state's civil liberties union." (Baptist Press, 11/27/00) The Indiana CLU found the town of Bedford (pop. 14,800) to be worthy of $1,000 fine every day the monument stood and each Lawrence County commissioner, $200 a day. "U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker issued the ruling Nov. 13, basing it on arguments set forth in an earlier case involving the same monument at the statehouse building in Indianapolis. In that hearing, held this past July, Indiana Civil Liberties Union officials accused Democratic Gov. Frank O'Bannon of unlawfully endorsing religion on government property after he proclaimed his intent to display a limestone monument that included carvings of the Ten Commandments, the U.S. Bill of Rights and the preamble of the state's constitution." Where was the ACLU when the Hindu priest entered the halls of the U.S. congress and prayed to his god for our nation? It would be interesting to hear their defense of this pagan religion as opposed to Christianity. America may well have that opportunity. - WWM
Gays Criticize Gift To Christian Academy -The wife of America Online chairman Steve Case, has donated $8.35 million to her high school alma mater, Westminister Academy (Presbyterian). The school is run by a church that strongly opposes homosexual activity and sponsors ads saying gays can become heterosexual. This raised the wrath of the Human Rights Campaign executive director, Elizabeth Birch. (KC Star, 11/13/00) Birch wrote Mrs. Case that this would "only create an assembly line of hate and intolerance." It is likely neither of these women have given much thought of God's view in this subject. Lot called homosexuality wicked (Gen. 19:7). David said that "...God is angry with the wicked every day." (Psa. 7:11) It would be far more beneficial to please God than to bow to the sinful practices of fallen humanity. -WWM
Hollywood's Streisand & `Right To Choose' -It is a sad day in American when Hollywood celebrities like Barbra Streisand can have a hearing on what is best for society. Especially when it is a political speech touting a presidential candidate who believes in abortion of all sorts, including partial-birth abortion. (Family Research Council Press Release, 11/8/00) It should be no surprise that the liberal news media would furnish free air time. It is not only the kids whose lives are fashioned by Hollywood. Immature adults are often times more vulnerable to sex symbols than even the children are to programs aimed at them. -WWM
Planned Parenthood Wins In Colorado - In Colorado, voters rejected (60 to 40 percent) a measure requiring a twenty-four hour waiting period before an abortion. Planned Parenthood clearly out-funded pro-life efforts in this contest. Their vigorous opposition shows they know that the more information a woman gets about abortion, the fewer abortions America will have. (Family Research Council Press Release, 11/8/00) -WWM
DeGeneres' Adopted State Votes Right - Although Ellen DeGeneres and her Lesbian lover, Anne Heche, have split, their plan was to move to Vermont where the gay/lesbian life- style was better accepted. She obviously didn't know the state was not as liberal as she thought. "Although returns are incomplete at this time, it appears that nearly a dozen pro-gay legislators were voted out of office," said a Nov. 8 Press Release. I pray every segment of America will one day fire every politician who advocates homosexuality and the murdering of the most defenseless members of society. -WWM
Baylor Univ. Fires `Intelligent Design' Advocate - The faculty senate asked Baylor University to shut down "the Michael Polanyi Center directed by William A. Dembski because it legitimized creationism." Dembski, an Eastern Orthodox laymen, was fired as director, but he praised "Baylor for resisting `intolerant assaults on freedom of thought' from `dogmatic opponents of design.'"(KC Star,11/13/00) This university was once a Baptist(?) college. Ground breaking ceremonies have recently taken place for the George W. Truett Theological Seminary on campus. The first opening "convocation service for Truett Seminary on Aug. 28, 1994, was in the worship center of First Baptist Church, Waco." (Baylor Web-site.) This Seminary is likely no more tolerant of the "intelligent design" doctrine than the University faculty senate. -WWM
