Falwell Pays Tribute to Benny Hinn. "On the `This is Your Day' program (12/28/99) Benny Hinn, in studio with his guests Steve Brock and a man named Ron, featured clips from his 25th ministry anniversary celebration (see 12/15 CC), highlighting several Christian leaders who came to pay tribute to him. Hinn's regular admirers appeared singing his praises, such as Rex Humbard, Paul Crouch and Oral Roberts. But a surprise guest was Jerry Falwell, who gave his own personal endorsement of Benny Hinn. Ron marveled about Falwell's comments, and beamed, `His students knew who you were,' And many of them were your partners! That shows me that the whole body of Christ is waking up to the fact that the Holy Spirit is doing something sovereign in the earth!' Here is the transcript of Falwell's tribute from the clip that was aired: `Pastor Benny and I are friends and I'm glad for every soul that comes and has come to Christ through your ministry over the past 25 years. Van Impe And Hagee Team up. "A joint effort between Christian TV preachers Jack Van Impe, John Hagee and Canadian born film maker Peter Paul Lalonde has produced a new movie called Revelation. The movie, playing in regular theaters, is a fictional account of people's lives after the rapture of the saints. It is the second of a three-part series." (Door-Step Evangel, Jan/Feb 2000)

The Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. Sexuality Curriculum, developed for children and youth from pre-school through high school, contains teachings which are in direct opposition to the biblical message on sexuality. An example of the curricula wording is, `We [meaning the church] favor the general availability of contraceptive devices to persons who desire them. We consciously include the availability of contraceptives to unmarried persons in this recommendation.'" Door-Step Evangel, Jan/Feb 2000

Christian Students Must Support Homosexuals. Students can't escape paying fees to groups they don't like, such as gay-rights organizations, at public colleges that charge mandatory fees, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled March 22. The case involved Scott Southworth and other former University of Wisconsin students who sued the school in 1996, complaining about having to pay fees that fund campus extracurricular groups, including the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Center and the International Socialist Organization...."As a conservative and a Christian, it was frustrating to see the money going to organizations I personally disagree with," Southworth said. "Students have a First Amendment right not to speak," said Jordan Lorence, Southworth's attorney. ...The high court ruled that mandatory fees at public colleges and universities do not violate any student's free-speech rights, but instead promote the university's goal to "facilitate a wide range of speech," Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote ....Christian students at several other colleges had sued their schools over similar fees, and if the court had ruled the other way the fee-collection system across the United States would have had to be altered or discarded, observers said. What Missionaries Some times Endure. We began the trip by evangelizing a new island. We were well received there in the sense that the people on the island listened with interest as we preached the gospel to them. However, there were no professions of faith. We passed out about a thousand gospel pamphlets on the island also, so our witness there will continue on for some time. The people in this area eat dog, and we watched them cook a dog. The dog was neither skinned nor gutted, but merely roasted over a firehead, tail, paws, fur, guts and all. This eliminates all the hard work of preparing food to cook, but is not very appetizing! They took part in Hope '99, a nationwide outreach involving more than 300 evangelistic services around the nation, the Luis Palau Evangelistic Association told Religion Today. ...Thousands of people became Christians through the outreach, Chuck Kelley of Bridge Builders International said. The Oregon-based ministry spearheaded the outreach in cooperation with LPEA and other ministries. Several Oregon pastors preached in smaller cities, and a Gospel choir from Chicago performed. ...Palau preached several nights in Riga, the capital. At the final service 500 people, one-sixth of the crowd, came to the altars to pray and talk with counselors, Kelley said. "I was seated behind [former Latvian President] Ulmanis on the platform. He was simply amazed. As I looked to the left I saw a Baptist preacher weeping. In a special sense, amid the chaos and confusion of Latvia, God showed up with strong peace." Blasphemous Idolatry at Galilee. "Jerusalem, March 24 - Pope John Paul II celebrated mass today on the muddied slopes above the Sea of Galilee with a solemn processional across the red-carpeted stage, where a large portrait of Jesus hung behind the open-air altar...A high point of the Mass was the Blessing of the Communion wafer. As the pope blessed the large wafer holding it up above his face, this symbolism of Catholic faith represented the multitudes of Catholics in the audience..." (ABC NEWS.com) Comments: "Symbolism"? Roman Catholics believe the wafer actually becomes Jesus, and that He is being sacrificed again so they can "hope" to be saved one day. The Pope was holding up the wafer so it could be worshiped by the "faithful". How far things have degenerated since Christ preached near the Sea of Galilee! Superstitious paganism now masquerades as Christianity. Catholic doctrine states: "...the Mass, the Lord's Supper, is at the same time and inseparably...a sacrifice in which the sacrifice of the cross is perpetuated...There should be no doubt in anyone's mind `that all the faithful ought to show to this most holy sacrament the worship which is due to the true God, as has always been the custom of the Catholic Church. Nor is it to be adored any less because it was instituted by Christ to be eaten. For even in the reserved sacrament he is to be adored because he is substantially present there through the conversion of bread and wine which, as the Council of Trent tells us, is most aptly named transubstantiation." Parents Have No Rights. But Lesbians Do! "The California labor commissioner has ruled that parents have no right to pull their students from the classroom of a lesbian teacher simply because she discusses her sexual lifestyle. The incident began when Alta Kavanaugh reportedly made multiple references to her sexual orientation in class, to which the parents strongly objected. She filed a complaint against school officials when they allowed the students to withdraw from her class. The Hemet school district has not determined whether it will appeal the decision." Americans View of Christianity as Only Path to God. "Americans who view Christianity as the only `true path to God' are a minority (38%), compared to those who say that `many religions, not only Christianity, offer a true path to God' (44%). The results are based on a USA Today/CNN/Gallup religion survey. A surprising 30% of respondents identified themselves as `spiritual but not religious.' A USA Today cover story suggested that `self-defined' spirituality' is replacing church-based faith.' Four out of five adults call themselves `Christian,' but Barna admonished that `being religious is not synonymous with being a committed Christian.'" (What In The World, Vol. 27 No. 6)

Gay-Friendly Skies Of United-United Airlines are striving to become the "`official airline' of gay men and lesbians." (Chicago [AP], LAJ3/17/00) The Co-director of United's marketing effort said, "This is the definite goal." United hopes to catch up with American Airlines which many consider the choice among gays. The offer of "domestic partner benefits" will allow homosexuals to fly on a married couple status. When will adulterous and fornicating heterosexual live-ins be considered for the same benefits? They fall in the same category in the sight of God. "Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,...shall inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Cor. 6:9,10)-(W. W. Gay Victory Over Dr. Laura - Radio talk host, Dr. Laura Schlessinger, has canceled her planned visit to Detroit. The gay/lesbian GLAAD organization raised a ruckus because of Dr. Laura's statement concerning their lifestyle. She called homosexuality a "biological error" and "deviant." (LAJ, 3/19/00) According to the GLAAD 3/15/00 Web Site, Schlessinger has made life hard for the `glad' but not so happy degenerates. Her visit to Michigan is not all that GLAAD has in mind to stop. They will generate as much effort trying to diminish the biblical teaching that sodomy is hated by God. Vice President Supported Defeating Proposition 22 - Some 60% of Californians voted for Proposition 22 which defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman only. Catholic Priest Chaplain Of US House - A Chicago priest was sworn in as chaplain of the US House of Representatives on Thursday." (CWN, 3/24/00) This followed a four-month controversy over allegations of "anti-Catholic bias in the selection process." While Pope John Paul II is apologizing for the "church's sins" against others, Catholics are pressing for a more prestigious position in government. "British officials this week allowed two women to marry after one produced a birth certificate proving he was born a man and had a sex-change operation." Homosexual Rights Bill Pending In Canada - "Canadian homosexuals will receive many legal benefits if a bill introduced in parliament becomes law." (Religion Today, 3/24/00) If passed it will virtually remove "all differences under the law between homosexual relationships and heterosexual marriages." Anne McClellan sponsored the bill. At least we know who will benefit the most if the bill passes. However the vote goes will not alter the law of God on this matter. - WWM

Baptist President Visits Muslim Pakistan - President Clinton seeks unity among the nations as he visits Pakistan this week. "Pakistani law forbids preaching to Muslims, and blasphemy against Islam is punishable by death." Vermont's Same-Sex Couples Legal Rights Bill - Vermont's House of Reps voted 76-69 to give same-sex couples legal rights that are the equivalent of marriage. (2/20/00 Religion Today) Couples would pay $20 for a civil-union license and have their partnership certified by a judge, justice of peace, or clergy member. The bill is expected to pas the Vermont Senate. Gov. Howard Dean (D) promises to sign it. The Vermont high court ruled last year "that homosexuals were unfairly denied the rights and benefits of marriage.... In straw polls at recent town meetings, Vermonters voted 3 to 1 against same-sex marriage and 2 to 1 against domestic partnerships." Political correctness doesn't care what the majority think. Regardless of how this bill goes or who signs it, the Judge of all the earth has already cast the deciding vote. -WWM

TV Hits Blasphemous New Low! -NBC plans to discontinue their TV show "God, the Devil and Bob." The show "`depicts God looking like a hippy, drinking beer and cursing,' said Variety." (3/17/00 Religion Today) This is fearful even to report but parents need to be warned. TV and Hollywood is Satan's primary tool to draw multitudes into an enlarge hell with a mouth opened without measure. (Isa. 5:14) "The fool hath said in his heart, there is not God," (Psa. 14:1) and "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God." (Psa. 9:17) Hell is no joke, yet fools still make a mock of sin. "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap." (Gal. 6:7) -WWM

Cohabitation - Almost 40 percent of all supposedly single-parent families are really two-parent cohabiting families. Over half of today's newlyweds live together before tying the knot, compared with about 10 percent in 1965 (3/13 USN & WR). There is more cheating by couples who cohabit, and more domestic violence and depression. These couples are often politically liberal, less religious, less educated and have lower incomes (2/28 Christian News). Cohabiting relationships also tend to be short-lived. - CC

Rock Band At SBC Church "Christian" rock band Audio Adrenaline has sold over a million records and has performed at a BBF and a charismatic church (see 7/15/98 CC). A 3/2 Huntsville Times article stated: "If you come to Audio Adrenaline's concert Friday night [$19.50] at Whitesburg Baptist Church, be well-advised. This won't be the Good Time Gospel Hour by a bunch of choirboys. Nope, this is rock `n' roll, loud, jamming, Christian rock `n' roll. You might hear some classics, but it's more likely you'll hear `Free Ride,'yes, the great rock `n' roll song by Edgar and Johnny Winter." -CC

Catholics Cover Up Priests Dying Of AIDS The 2/14 USN&WR said: "Since the mid-1980s, hundreds of Roman Catholic priests in the U.S. were reported to have died of AIDS, with a death rate four times that of the general public.The widely circulated report last week by the Kansas City Star raised the disquieting specter of a church hierarchy more intent on covering up than coping with the problem." A.W. Richard Sipe, a former priest who has spent over 30 years studying sexuality issues in the RC Church, thinks about 750 priests nationwide have died of such illnesses. This means an AIDS-related death rate eight times that of the general population (2/7 Chr. News). Joseph Barone, a NJ psychiatrist and AIDS expert, puts the number of U.S. priests who have died at 1,000 nearly 11 times the rate of the general population. -CC

Mainline Churches Decline From 1967 to 1997 four major NCC/WCC denominations have declined by 25 to 51 percent. In some liberal denominations, bishops have ordained homosexual clergy and allowed witches to teach in seminary (3/00 Charisma). A departure from Scriptural authority has created same-sex marriage and radical feminism. These and other heresies are rapidly emptying the pews of liberal churches where apostasy is rife. But sadly, many of those leaving the liberal churches are flocking in droves to charismatic churches. -CC

Celebrate Jesus 2000 This super ecumenical event features several Catholic and charismatic speakers, at St. Louis, June 22-25. The list includes: Pat Robertson, Kenneth Copeland, Jack Hayford, John Arnott, Richard Roberts, Steve Hill, and Ted Haggard. There will be separate programs for 10 denominations (RC, Episcopal, Methodist, etc.) in the morning sessions, but all the different "streams" will meet together for the afternoon and evening sessions. Fr. Tom Forrest (RC) is featured in one evening session. Nine Catholics are on the Steering Committee, which also includes Church of Christ, American Baptist, and other liberal denomination reps. The various denominational rivers are fast flowing into the one ecumenical stream of the one-world church of the Antichrist. God commands faithful Christians (Rev. 18:4) to "Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues." -CC

Advice For Seeker-Friendly Church Seeker-friendly churches are popular in our day, thanks to Bill Hybels, Rick Warren, and Ed Dobson. The 2/00 Baptist Bulletin warns: "Fearful that confronting the seeker with the reality of sin will cause the church to lose contact with seekers, the seeker-friendly church will often soften its message so as not to offend.A church must be extremely careful not to limit itself to a `feel good' message." A church that is a true friend to seekers will design its services to make the unbelieving seeker see his sin, God's holiness, and his need of a Savior. -CC

Hell Is Not A Literal Place? U. S. News & World Report for Jan. 31 quoted a Jesuit magazine with close ties to the Vatican as saying: "Hell is not a `place' but a `state,' a person's `state of being,' in which a person suffers from the deprivation of God." Pope John Paul II told a Vatican audience that "rather than a place, hell indicates the state of those who freely and definitely separate themselves from God." He said hell is "not a punishment imposed externally by God" but is the natural consequence of the unrepentant sinner's choice to live apart from God. The USN&WR article said: "While Martin Luther and John Calvin regarded hell as a real place they believed its fiery torments were figurative." Billy Graham has questioned the fire of hell. Clark Pinnock asks, "How can Christians possibly project a deity of such cruelty and vindictiveness" as to inflict "everlasting torture upon his creatures, however sinful they may have been?" He said a God who would do such a thing is "more nearly like Satan than like God." John Stott said in biblical imagery, fire's main function is to destroy and that while the fire of hell may be eternal and unquenchable, "it would be very odd if what is thrown into it proves indestructible." The Biblical hell is a literal place of everlasting fiery torment.-CC

Dumb To Give Needles To Drug Users Since 1994 the Baltimore City Needle Exchange Program has distributed over two million syringes to some 10,000 addicts. There is plenty of evidence that it didn't work as it was supposed to. Many addicts share their clean needles with others, and sell them to buy drugs (2/00 R. Digest). In Vancouver's program, HIV rates among drug users soared from 2 percent in 1988 to 23 percent in 1997.One drug addict said he was glad the exchange exists, but that what he needed was help breaking his habit, not easier access to more needles. "This program is not helping your addiction," he said, "It's just giving you an endless supply of clean needles with which to inject the drugs into your veins."-CC

Priests Die Of Aids At High Rate Roman Catholic priests in the U.S. are dying from AIDS-related illnesses at a rate four times higher than the general population and the cause is often concealed on their death certificates (1/31 HT). Several hundreds have died since the mid-1980s and hundreds more now live with HIV. Most priests with AIDS contracted it through same-sex (homosexual) relations. Catholics forbid priests to marry heterosexually. "Forbidding to marry" is linked with "doctrines of demons" (1 Tim. 4:1-3).1 Cor. 7:1-9 teaches, to avoid fornication, if a person cannot have self-control, then it is better to marry than to burn with sinful lust.-CC

Spong Retires But Won't Shut Up Episcopal bishop John Shelby Spong retired last month, but will lecture for the next few months at Harvard. He dismisses "old notions of heaven and hell" and eternal punishment or reward. He has debunked the virginity of Mary and the resurrection of Jesus, declared all morality relative to time and place, and said that God as a being to pray to "is dead." (1/29 H. Times). Spong has said he "would choose to loathe rather than to worship a deity who required the sacrifice of his son." (6/15/98 Chr. Today) He ordained the nation's first openly homosexual priest.-CC
